I’ve set automatic sound and light routines that cue my mind and body to wind down at night, too. My fav feature? Every night I turn the display completely OFF. How Winston Delivered Christmas
This is the sweetest book and “experience” for families with young children. You read one part of the story each day leading up to Christmas. (advent style) I read it with my 9 year old daughter a few years ago. Couple this with Yoto’s NEW audio version of this book!
Murdle Jr.
Great logic games and puzzles, but for the younger crowd.
Dune
This one is for teens, and it’s great. If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time!

Pretend Play Grocery Store
Tyler made our kids the most adorable checkout stand years ago, but this is a great store-bought option. We often kept the chalkboard by it, so this combo is perfect!
Stretch Your Brain with STEM
Creative Kit
This new subscription box is tailored for younger kids, ~6–10 years. We haven’t tried this one yet (all our kids are older than this now!), but we’ve loved our other CrunchLabs subscriptions. Each box is packed with creative activities that encourage imaginative play and artistic expression.
Crunch Labs
Subscribed since May 2023—our kids still love assembling these kits. Much like the fun of assembling a Lego kit, but the result is a working machine with an entertaining explanation (Mark Rober!) of the scientific principles behind how it works. Tons of fun. *Our kids have assembled these many times without watching the video. No screen is required. 🙂
Bristle Blocks
A classic for a reason! Kids can practice fine motor skills while getting creative. This goes on our list of “screen-free staples for every home.”
Klutz Lego Gear Bots
The Klutz brand does a great job of teaching new skills while having fun, and this Klutz / Lego combo is a favorite. Have a fun time building Legos while learning machine design!
Bridge or Bust—The Ultimate Bridge-Building Adventure
We love ALL of Upper Story’s toys and their brand new bridge game is no exception. We’re mind-blown! If you have any budding engineers or kids who love to work with their hands, they will love this.
Our 11-year old daughter has been having lots of fun with it, and has completed many of the bridges completely on her own!
Tyler’s impressed with the build quality of the game and the ingenious ways it emulates REAL bridge design. The bridge will break if it’s not strong enough, but when it breaks you can easily reset it to make improvements and try again. (This is how our kids build resiliance and critical thinking skills! YES!)
This game offers hours of fun, engaging play time, and will teach you enough about bridge building that you’ll think very differently about the next bridge you cross in real life.(Seriously just as much for the dads as the kids!)

Lavendar Neck Wrap
Our teen girls use their lavendar-scented neck wraps on the regular! It’s the perfect way to relieve the school stress, time spend on a screen doing homework, and muscle tension from dance/sports. We got ours at a local lavendar farm, but this one is getting great reviews.

These are the actual barettes our 16 year old asked for for her bday this year.
LEUCHTTURM1917 - Daily Planner 2026

The Art of Hair: The Ultimate DIY Guide to Braids, Buns, Curls, and More
Our 16 year old has used this book so many times over the years! Yes we know there are so many great YouTube hair tutorials, but there’s something about sitting in your room with a book and a mirror and following instructions. It’s been a great resource for our pre-teen and teen girls.
Hack Pack
The kits that come with subscription are really fun to build. They definitely up the game to a teen level, requiring more complex assembly of hardware and electronics along with the addition of computer control. The instructions make it easy to complete the basic form of the project, and then provide suggestions for addition to both software and hardware that can make each project go from small to huge. The only limit is your imagination. Good for teens and older. (Tyler and our teen son have had so much fun with this!)
Laser Tag
For anyone who’s ever had playtime devolve into arguments about who got hit and who didn’t, laser tag is here to set the record straight. Safe and simple to play, this high-energy game is a ton of fun.
LEGO Technic
For all the Lego fans who are ready to add some motion to their builds. Lego Technic kits add moving parts like gears, wheels, and springs to increase the complexity, fun, and learning! (And they have so many fun designs and themes to choose from.)
Make Some Music
Record Player
Teens are loving record players again. This one even has bluetooth! Our teen neice says her record player is hands down one of her favorite screen-free activities. She also recommends THIS PLAYER.
Yamaha Acoustic-Electric Guitar
